The Prophet of Climate Change: James Lovelock

E-mail Print PDF

Preeminent scientist James Lovelock is credited with inventing a device that helped detect the growing hole in the ozone layer and jump-start the environmental movement in the 1970s. He also introduced the revolutionary theory known as Gaia -- the idea that our entire planet is a kind of superorganism that is, in a sense, "alive."

In this article, Lovelock outlines a global warming doomsday scenario. He compares conservative computer models of climate trends to what's really happening. He talks about the need for a plan to manage mass migration. He predicts war between Russia and China, famine, drought and the spread of disease. He is a proponent for nuclear power and he urges the necessity of synthetic foods. He prophesizes this could be the end of civilization and concludes that: "Some people will sit in their seats and do nothing, frozen in panic. Others will move. They'll see what's about to happen, and they'll take action, and they'll survive. They're the carriers of the civilization ahead."
